Memphis Police does not publish one consumer-facing brand as “the” police wrecker. City wrecker rules honor the owner’s choice of towing company, with three exceptions MPD decides: the company isn’t permitted, can’t respond in reasonable time, or the vehicle is an immediate traffic hazard. Rotation emergency wreckers must reach an accident scene within 30 minutes of dispatch or the call rolls to the next company. That choice exists while the car is still on the street. Once it is on a hook and gone, you are locating it, not picking the truck.
If the car is already missing, use who to call when your car is towed and how to find a car impounded by police.
Owner’s choice is real, until MPD overrides it
Wrecker companies operating inside Memphis city limits must be approved by the Memphis Transportation Commission. MPD Wrecker Rotation approval is a separate list. A company can be permitted to operate in the city and still not be next on the rotation board.
If you are on scene with an officer, say you want your own operator. Give the officer the company name once you have a match. Quick Tow Memphis is a referral service. We match you with a local operator. We do not sit on the rotation board, hold a towing permit, or run a wrecker. The operator we dispatch has to be allowed to take the job under those city rules. If MPD says the company isn’t permitted, cannot make the scene in a reasonable time, or the car is an immediate traffic hazard, the officer’s call controls.
Do not argue in a live lane. If the car is a hazard, the rotation truck that can clear it will. You can still ask where the car will be stored.
The 30-minute rotation rule is an accident-scene rule
Rotation emergency wreckers must reach an accident scene within 30 minutes of dispatch or the call rolls to the next company. That is a city wrecker rule for rotation dispatch, not a promise that every private breakdown arrives in 30 minutes. We do not publish arrival times for the operators we match.
Hourly billing is restricted to Class B and C nonconsensual emergency wreckers that are actually in use or ordered to wait by an officer. It is not a general rate card for a breakdown you called yourself.
Storage rates on a city-regulated impound begin 24 hours after impound. Overcharging under city wrecker rules has a remedy: reimburse all monies paid, or release the vehicle free. Complaints go to the Permits Administrator / Wrecker Coordinator at (901) 636-6735 or permits@memphistn.gov.
Where a police wrecker takes the car
MPD tows, Shelby County Sheriff tows, and Housing and Community Development tows all process through the Memphis Police Department Vehicle Storage Lot at 465 Klinke Avenue, Memphis, TN 38127. Phone (901) 636-8200. Open seven days, 24 hours. There is no separate Shelby County impound lot and no online lookup.
City lot fees, always the city’s, never ours: impound fee $135.00, storage $30.00 per day, excluding winching or other additional charges. Cash and credit accepted.
A private-property wrecker the police did not order often stores at its own yard. Ask the officer which path this tow is. If it is a city impound, Klinke is the lot. If it is a private hook the property authorized, the wrecker’s yard is the lot.
Germantown, Bartlett, and Collierville police desks are not the Memphis rotation. A Southaven or Hernando scene is Mississippi. Do not expect Klinke to hold those cars.
Call your own operator before the car leaves the pavement
If the car still sits on Union, Lamar, I-240, or a Whitehaven curb, you can still ask for owner’s choice. Call (901) 557-8700. Give the officer’s name or car number if you have it, the exact street, and whether the car is a hazard. Year, make, model, and drivetrain belong on the call.
Our standard light-duty hookup starts at $95. Distance, vehicle size, time of day, truck type, and hookup difficulty can change the total. Ask for the full amount with mileage included, in writing, before you agree. A rotation or non-consent tow is billed under city rules, not under that hookup floor.
After an accident, your car after an accident in Memphis covers holds, belongings, and release papers.
Quick Tow Memphis matches the call. The operator performs the work and contracts with you. The line takes calls 24/7.
