The engine cuts out in a Goodman Road lot, or you ease onto the I-55 shoulder south of Stateline Road. You’re in Southaven, Mississippi, even if Memphis is the next city north. The operators we dispatch treat this as a Mississippi pickup, and they need the exact road or lot before a truck rolls. Farther south at the county seat, use car broke down in Hernando.
Share the exact Southaven road or lot
Southaven is DeSoto County, not a Memphis neighborhood with a different zip code. Goodman Road (Highway 302) runs east-west through the retail strip. Airways Boulevard, Getwell Road, Church Road, and Nail Road each put you in a different pocket. Stateline Road sits on the Tennessee line. A pin that actually sits in Horn Lake, or already north of Stateline in Memphis, sends the wrong truck.
Say the road, the nearest cross street, and the lot by name if you have one. Southaven Towne Center, a grocery lot on Goodman, Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, a subdivision off Snowden Lane: those are different access paths. Share a live phone pin, then still say the words out loud. Pins drift. Naming a big-box store is not enough if two of them sit on the same corridor. Read the street number on the storefront if you can see it.
If you’re on a shoulder, name the highway, the direction of travel, and the nearest exit or mile marker. I-55 through Southaven is a different stop from I-55 already across the line in Tennessee. Church Road, Goodman, and Stateline each have their own ramps. Tell the person on the line which one you can see.
Stay with the car if it’s safe. Put the hazards on. If you’re in a travel lane, get to a shoulder or a parking aisle when you can do it without darting. Don’t stand in Goodman traffic to flag a truck. The operator needs a clear, legal place to stage, and a lot aisle is easier than a live lane.
If police are already on scene, say so. A wreck on I-55 or a blocked stretch of Airways can mean an officer is directing traffic. That can still be a tow you request, unless the officer tells you the city is taking the car. For a police tow you did not ask for, call Southaven Police non-emergency at (662) 393-8652. The station is at 8691 Northwest Drive. Southaven has not published an impound-lot page or a fee schedule we can verify, so that phone line is how you locate the car. Don’t assume it went to a Memphis lot.
Name the Mississippi pickup, not the Memphis shop
A tow that starts in Southaven is governed by Mississippi law. Tennessee wrecker rules, Memphis city lot fees, and Tennessee reclaim clocks do not travel across Stateline Road with the truck. The operators we connect you with still run the job. The pickup address is what sets the paperwork.
Say the pickup first, then the drop. “Take it to my shop in East Memphis” is the second sentence, not the first. If the car is in a Southaven parking lot, that lot is the job. If you already crossed into Tennessee before the car died, say that too. The state line on Stateline Road and on I-55 is short on a map and load-bearing on a ticket.
We could not confirm a current Mississippi statewide towing-fee cap, a Southaven city wrecker rate, or a published DeSoto County impound schedule. Ask the operator for the full total with mileage included before you agree. Ask what would change it: after-hours, a winch, a low-clearance car, a locked steering column. If you need the rule that applies to a police or property tow in this city, ask Southaven Police or the operator covering the stop. Don’t borrow a Memphis answer.
Quick Tow Memphis is a referral service. We take the details and match you with a local operator. The operator does the work and contracts with you. We don’t own the truck, run a Southaven yard, or set that operator’s total. Emergency towing is the usual match for a dead car on Goodman, I-55, or a retail lot after closing.
If someone later tows the car without you there, Mississippi still controls that pickup. Call Southaven Police to locate it. The Memphis Police Vehicle Storage Lot at 465 Klinke Avenue is the city lot for Memphis, Shelby County Sheriff, and Housing and Community Development tows. It is not Southaven’s lot.
Describe what the car does now
Dispatch needs the failure, not the make’s nickname. Won’t crank. Cranks and dies. Overheating. Flat that you already tried to change. Locked in park. No keys. Smoking. Leaking. Sitting in a parking stall with four flats. Each of those changes the truck and the hook.
Say whether the car rolls and whether you can steer it. A car that still rolls can often be winched a few feet onto a bed in a lot. A car locked in park in a tight Towne Center stall may need a different approach. If the parking brake will not release, say that. If it’s all-wheel drive, a low sports car, or an EV, say that too, and have the operator check the towing section for your exact year and trim. Recreational-tow notes in an owner’s manual are not a substitute for the plan on scene.
Don’t crawl under the car on I-55. Don’t try to push it across Goodman. A trained operator handles a shoulder sit, a stall packed against a curb, or a car that has to come out of a ditch. If you can wait in a store, a lobby, or a well-lit lot, do that and keep the phone on.
Tell them what’s in the car that has to come with you: a child seat, work tools, a pet, a wheelchair. Personal items stay yours. For a Southaven pickup we could not confirm a Mississippi on-scene retrieval statute by citation, so treat “I need my bag before it rolls” as a request you make out loud, not a rule we can quote. Once the car is on the truck, say where those items should go.
If this is a box truck, a motorcycle, or a car with aftermarket air suspension, say that before the truck is assigned. Light-duty equipment is the common Southaven call. A heavier or awkward load is a different truck, and that has to be named up front.
Explain I-55 or Stateline Road access
I-55 is the spine. It cuts through Southaven and crosses into Tennessee at the state line. A breakdown on the Southaven side is still Mississippi. A breakdown already north of that line is Tennessee. Name the side. Name northbound or southbound. Name the exit you can see: Stateline, Church, Goodman.
Stateline Road is the surface-street version of the same problem. One curb can be Southaven. The other can be Memphis. If you’re in a lot that faces Stateline, walk to the entrance and read the city on the sign. Tell dispatch that city. A truck staged from the wrong side of the line wastes the trip and can put the paperwork in the wrong state.
If you are on Tennessee I-55, TDOT’s HELP patrol covers that interstate from state line to state line, Monday through Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. HELP does flat changes, fuel delivery, minor mechanical help, and clearing blocking vehicles. It does not tow to a shop, home, or lot. Anything past lane clearance is a private tow. HELP does not replace a Southaven lot call, and it is not a Mississippi patrol. Check TDOT HELP if you’re already on the Tennessee freeway. For live Tennessee cameras and incidents, TDOT SmartWay is the traffic layer.
On the Southaven shoulder, stay in the car with the seat belt on if traffic is close. If you can get behind a barrier or up the slope, do that. At night, keep the interior light off so you can see approaching traffic, and keep the phone charged. Don’t walk the I-55 shoulder toward Stateline to “make it a Memphis call.” The pickup is where the car sits.
Retail lots along Goodman and Airways are easier staging than the interstate, but they still need a described entrance. “Behind the building, west side, facing the dumpsters” is useful. “In Southaven” is not. If a manager is asking you to move, say so on the call so the operator knows the clock on that stall.
Confirm the destination before dispatch
The pickup is Mississippi. The drop is a separate decision. A Southaven shop, a driveway off Nail Road, a dealer on Goodman, or a mechanic in Memphis: each one changes mileage, truck time, and whether this stays local or becomes a longer haul.
Confirm the drop address before the truck is assigned. A shop name without a street in Memphis can mean Midtown, East Memphis, or Hickory Hill, and those are not the same run from I-55. If the car is going across the state line into Tennessee, say the full street. That cross-state piece is a different article from this breakdown guide: towing a car from Southaven to Memphis walks the haul. For how distance and truck type move a longer bill, see long-distance tow cost in Memphis.
There is no cheapest towing company we can name for Southaven. Distance, vehicle size, time of day, truck type, and hookup difficulty all move the number. Ask for the full total with mileage included before you agree. Ask what would change it. We don’t promise a flat rate, a freeze after the first quote, or a waived fee. Coverage, if you have it, comes from your own policy or roadside add-on. Mississippi does not write that check for you, and Tennessee’s insurance rules don’t either.
If the drop is a long way past Memphis, say so up front so the match is long-distance towing, not a local hook that then has to be reworked. If you only need the car off Goodman tonight and you’ll pick a shop in the morning, say that too. The operator still needs a real address, even if it’s your driveway.
Get the total in writing before dispatch. Ask for an itemized invoice. Ask to see written authorization and the paperwork. We work pay-per-call, with no membership and no annual fee. The line takes calls 24/7 at (901) 557-8700. Calls are recorded, and a recording notice plays first.
When to call us
Call when the car will not move itself off Goodman, I-55, Stateline Road, or a Southaven lot, and you need an operator to hook it and take it to a real address. Stay out of the travel lane, keep the pickup in Mississippi if that’s where you sit, and confirm the drop before the truck is assigned. Call us at (901) 557-8700.
